Police: Glens Falls man assaulted sex offender

12-30-2013 New York:

FORT EDWARD -- A Glens Falls man who is on parole for robbery has been jailed for allegedly beating and seriously injuring a registered sex offender, police said.

Brandon S. Salmans, 29, was charged with second-degree assault in connection with a late November incident in which he is accused of walking up to a Third Avenue man and punching him in the face, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

He is accused of hitting Leonard McFall as McFall was on the front porch of his home. He suffered a broken nose and broken facial orbital bone that required surgery, police said.

McFall, 54, is a Level 3 sex offender because of a 2004 conviction for first-degree sexual abuse stemming from a sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl.

Salmans, who lives on Hudson Street, is acquainted with the family of the victim in the sex case, and attacked McFall because of his sexual abuse of the acquaintance, officials said.

Police located Salmans in Glens Falls and arrested him on Dec. 23. He was arraigned and sent to Washington County Jail for lack of bail.

Salmans served more than 7 years of a 10-year prison sentence for a 2006 liquor store robbery in Glens Falls. He was released from prison on Nov. 1 and is on parole. ..Source.. by PostStar.com

US woman Bonita Lynn Vela cuts 'molester's' penis with box cutter

A WOMAN accused of slicing a man’s genitals with a box cutter, because she believed he molested her 2-year-old son, has been arrested.

Police were called to a mobile home in Johnson County, Indiana, where they spoke with a man, who had blood stains and a cut on his penis, Fox59 reports.

The man claimed his girlfriend’s mother - Bonita Lynn Vela - had held him captive, refusing to release him until he allowed her to cut his penis.

Police said Ms Vela told him "he wanted to scar him so that he would have to look at it every time that he had sex in the future."

In a written statement, he described Ms Vela as "extremely mad" and "out of control" and said she threatened to turn him in for molestation, in spite of the man’s denials.

He told investigators Ms Vela was "going to take him out, shoot him in the head and tie him to a tree so the animals (would) eat him." He said she then told him to drop his pants so she could "cut his (expletive)". If he didn’t comply, "she was going to have people hold him down and she would cut (his penis) all the way off," the report said.

Ms Vela said she had been at a friend’s house where she smoked marijuana, and was unsure "if that was the only drug she ingested".

Around 3am she had a friend fetch her daughter’s boyfriend, so she could demand to know if he had molested her son. Her "anger just grew" throughout the encounter, the report said.

Ms Vela’s initial efforts to draw blood failed, after which she switched to a box cutter. The man said Ms Vela told him to "choose his life or his penis".

Georgia Vigilantes Beat Up Potential Sex Predator At Their House

12-26-2013 Georgia:

A group of young Georgia men are attracting some attention after posting a video of themselves beating up a potential sexual predator. The video, titled “To Catch a Predator with VillainPros” was posted yesterday and has been viewed over 13,000 times as of this writing.

The video starts with a message from the self-described VillainPros.

“The other night our homie hit us up and said that his 13 year old sister came to him and said that this grown ass man that had already been talking to her friend hit her up on [Facebook] and wanted to bring over some beer and ‘hang out.’ He was under the impression that she was home alone and made it very clear in his messages what he tryna do...the Villains had other plans for him.”

On the video, the 28-year-old man who had been messaging a young girl walks through the door of the house. Immediately, a man comes from the corner of the room and lands a punch to the his head. He is knocked to the ground and several of the other ‘Villains’ kick and punch him as he lays on the ground.

The video ends with a message from the poster saying they cut the camera off before having a “real talk” with him.

While it’s easy to get riled up and applaud the young men for stopping a potential sexual predator, there is a problem with this video. The entire attack is not only filmed, but also illegal. Regardless of the 28-year-old man’s intentions, he can now press charges against his assailants with hard evidence to back up his claims.

If these men were smart, they would have detained the man and called police. He would have been investigated and likely landed himself a lifelong spot on the sex offenders registry if he were really up to what he seemed to be. But instead, these vigilantes may now find themselves in jail in his place. ..Source with Video.. by Jonathan Wolfe

Man shot after being accused of sexual assault

12-25-2013 Utah:

MAGNA — A man who mistakenly thought another man sexually assaulted his partner was arrested early Saturday for investigation of attempted homicide.

Gerald Stanton, 44, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after police say he shot a second man at his residence, 8911 W. 3100 South, just after midnight.

Stanton had confronted a 41-year-old man he believed sexually assaulted his partner, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal. The two got into a verbal argument that became physical.

At some point during the confrontation, investigators believe Stanton pulled out a gun and shot the other man once in the stomach. Stanton then called 911.

The victim, meanwhile, fled to another residence a couple of doors away, Hoyal said. After the man was located by police and taken to a local hospital, detectives looked into the sexual assault allegations and could find no evidence that an assault took place.

The victim remained in critical condition Saturday. Hoyal said the investigation into the incident continued Saturday evening. ..Source.. by Pat Reavy

Police: Naked peeping Tom beaten

9-5-2013 New Mexico:

Man peered through window at teens, is in critical condition at UNMH, police say

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Albuquerque police are conducting an investigation into a battery that left a man in critical condition in the southwest part of the city. A caller said the man beaten was naked.

The man was left near the intersection of Corriz Drive and Garnet Avenue SW, according to Albuquerque Police Department’s Violent Crimes Detectives.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, when a caller told 911 a naked man was caught peering into the window of their home, watching the caller’s 13- and 15-year-old daughters inside the residence.

Katrina Chavez, who lives in the home, said the man made noises. She also said her son was punched by the man when he ran outside and told the peeping Tom to leave.

Police said three men from inside the residence chased the naked man away from the property before a fight ensued. When officers arrived they found the naked male subject badly beaten in the street.

The man was transported to University of New Mexico Hospital and is in unstable, critical condition as of noon Thursday.

The three men on scene were questioned and have been released, according to police. The investigation is ongoing. No one is under arrest.

The three men were the father and brother of the two female juveniles and a friend of the brother. Their ages were 29, 19 and 19, respectively. The District Attorney is working with detectives to determine possible charges pending for the three detained men. ..Source.. by Anna Velasquez

Guilty pleas in vigilante baseball bat attack

12-5-2013 California:

A Temecula father, his teen daughter and her friend have pleaded guilty in connection with the vigilante beating of a man the girl had accused of raping her.

The father, David Ray Mills, 36, pleaded guilty Tuesday, Dec. 4, to being an accessory to the Jan. 13 attack at a Temecula park in which Miguel Esteban Cruz, 20, was beaten with a baseball bat. Mills was sentenced to four years’ probation and time served.

Mills’ 16-year-old daughter, who was charged as an adult, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to time served and four years’ probation. The Press-Enterprise does not routinely identify victims of sexual crimes.

Her friend, Andre Edwin Dickerson Jr., 21, who carried out the beating, pleaded guilty to assault and was sentenced to six years in prison.

All three defendants had been charged with attempted murder, mayhem and vandalism. But those charges were dismissed as part of the defendants’ agreements with prosecutors.

John Hall, a spokesman for the Riverside County district attorney’s office, said in a written statement that prosecutors reached the plea agreements after a thorough review of the evidence.

“We believe the pleas and sentences in this case reflect what would have happened had the case proceeded to trial,” Hall said.
