Madison County woman fires gun to 'send message' to sex offender

Authorities arrested on Saturday a 61-year-old Madison County woman after she allegedly fired two gun shots as a way of sending “a message” to a convicted sex offender she didn’t want on her property.

Eddie L. Manley of Paoli Road, Carlton, was charged with aggravated assault, making a terroristic threat and pointing a pistol at another.

The shooting occurred outside Manley’s home, where the 53-year-old victim, who is a registered sex offender convicted of sexual exploitation of children, was shot in the foot with a .45-caliber handgun loaded with .410-gauge shotgun shells, according to a Madison County Sheriff’s report.

The man had cuts on his toes caused by one pellet, deputies said.

The victim said Manley’s boyfriend allowed him to come to the house to gather some belongings he left while in prison. While collecting his items, he said Manley exited her home and told him to leave, according to the report. The man said he didn’t respond to her order, then heard a gun shot. Manley began yelling and threatened the man’s life, telling him he would “never hurt another teenager again,” deputies said.

The neighbor told police Daven has harassed him and his family since discovering his sex crime against a child.

A St. Charles County man faces criminal charges after he threatened to shoot and kill a neighbor because he is on the sex offender registry.

Eugene L. Daven, 52, of the 400 block of Keeney Drive in St. Charles County near St. Peters, was charged Saturday with unlawful use of a weapon, harassment and third-degree assault.

A St. Charles County deputy said Daven was yelling and cursing at his neighbor Saturday and threatened his life.

“I’ll put a bullet in you. I’ve got a gun,” Daven said. He then went inside and came out with a gun and pointed it at his neighbor.

“I’m going to shoot you through the heart because you touch little kids,” Daven told his neighbor, according to a court document.

The neighbor told a St. Charles County Sheriff’s deputy that since Daven discovered his is a registered sex offender, he has been harassing him and his family and telling everyone that he is a child molester. The man had been convicted of having sex with a 14-year-old.

The deputy found two bb guns in Daven’s home, and one matched the description given by the neighbor.

As Daven was being booked, he told officers, “When I get out I’m going to kill that (expletive).

Daven posted a $15,000 bond and was released from jail Tuesday. He has been ordered to have no contact with the victim. ..Source.. by Joe Scott
