11-10-2006 Oregon:
.A Roseburg man was convicted of second-degree assault recently for stabbing another man in June. Jacy Kevin McManus, 25, pleaded guilty a week ago today in Douglas County Circuit Court to stabbing 33-year-old Christopher Michael Singleton (Sex Offender), also of Roseburg, June 7. The incident, which occurred in an alley off of Ballf Street, sent Singleton to a Portland hospital with a stab wound to the right arm.
Both men at the time offered different accounts to police, each blaming the other for the attack that stemmed from some dispute they apparently had with each other. McManus was sentenced to six months in jail with credit for time served and five years of probation. Second-degree assault carries a Measure 11 minimum sentence of 70 months in prison unless exceptions are found. In this case, the court found Singleton was a participant or aggressor in the incident and he did not suffer significant physical injury, said Deb Stoll, deputy district attorney.
Among other stipulations, McManus was ordered to undergo substance abuse evaluation, Stoll said, because he had been drinking alcohol around the time of the stabbing. He is no longer allowed to associate with Singleton, who is currently serving a prison sentence with the Oregon Department of Corrections for unrelated convictions including failure to register as a sex offender, stealing a vehicle and delivery of methamphetamine. ..more.. : by News Review
