Inmates attack father in Salinas $25 baby-sale case

Under heightened courtroom security, two Salinas parents were arraigned Friday in connection with an alleged attempt to sell their 8-month-old daughter.

Patrick Alan Fousek, 38, and Samantha Tomasini, 20, are being held in segregated, lockdown cells at the Monterey County Jail after Fousek was attacked by inmates Thursday night.

Sheriff's Cmdr. Mike Richards said inmates in the open dorm where Fousek had been housed jumped him at 10:15p.m. after the details of his charges were reported on television news.

Richards said the man was transported to Natividad Medical Center, where he was treated for multiple injuries to his face and two cracked ribs before being returned to the jail.

In the courtroom Friday, Fousek had a cut on the bridge of his nose and stitches in his lip, and his right eye was bruised and badly swollen.

Guard charged with permitting 'jailhouse justice' assault on sex offender

MEDINA, Ohio -- A Medina County Jail guard and four inmates were indicted on charges of assaulting an inmate who was being held on charges of having sex with a minor.

A Medina County Grand Jury indicted Corrections Officer Brian Young and the four prisoners. The case was presented by Cuyahoga County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Steven Gall.

Prosecutors said Young used the county's computer to verify that an inmate was in jail for sex offenses against a minor. He shared that information with the inmates.

"He then watched the other defendants go to the second floor of the pod, and gave them the 'thumbs-up'," said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office spokesman Ryan Miday. "The four defendants went into victim's cell and assaulted him."

The inmates were identified as Michael Hausler, Logan Clark, Caleb Klinksiek and James Polanski.

Each inmate was indicted on charges of felonious assault and abduction. Young was indicted on charges of felonious assault, abduction for aiding and abetting, unauthorized use of property and dereliction of duty.

Young will be arraigned on the charges Monday. The inmates will be arraigned later.

The name of the victim is being withheld for fear of reprisal.

Robbery suspect admits to assaulting sex offenders in Grover Beach

4-28-2010 California:

A man shot and wounded by a Grover Beach police officer last Friday morning may have been involved in a self-styled vigilante spree, targeting convicted sex offenders posted on the Megan’s Law website.

Police believe David Jordan Griffin, 24, who was arrested for allegedly robbing the Kautz Chevron station on Grand Avenue on Friday with a machete, may be linked to other crimes earlier in the week.

On Thursday, April 22, two separate incidents occurred within a half hour of each other in Grover Beach.

A young man, matching Griffin’s description, first attempted to confront the occupant of a residence on Longbranch Ave. He knocked on a door and asked for a man by name.

The occupant of the home, a registered sex offender, explained that the man he was asking for did not live at the residence. Griffin began to walk away while allegedly reading a printed list from the Megan’s Law website.

He quickly came back and began kicking the door, calling the victim explicit swear words and a sex offender.

While the door was damaged, the victim was not injured.

A half hour later, a second victim walked into a burglary in progress on N. 16th Street. Griffin hit the victim, who was using his right arm to block the blow, in the forearm with a hammer and also kicked and punched him.
