Man beaten, left in Wisconsin woods for wolves: prosecutors

UPDATE 3-25: See last article "what beaten fellow said" -v- "What perpetrators claim"
3-21-2014 Wisconsin:

Two men and two women beat a man and left him to be attacked by wolves in the northern Wisconsin woods after accusing him of inappropriately touching a child, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Raymond Jones, 45, his wife April, 38, their son Justin Bey, 21 and his friend Samantha McClellan, 18, were charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide, kidnapping and several other felonies, prosecutors said in a criminal complaint.

The four are accused of beating the man, age 40, at the Jones' house on March 10 and 11 in Wabeno, about 95 miles north of Green Bay, before hauling him to nearby woods and beating him again, the complaint said.

The man's name is being withheld because he is a victim of an alleged crime.

The man, who was a friend of April Jones and had been staying at the house, sustained fractures to his face, a broken nose and jaw, and two broken ribs, according to the complaint.

The group told investigators they left him in the woods where they hoped wolves would attack him, the complaint filed in Forest County Circuit Court said.

Cops: 4 beat man, left him in woods to be eaten by wolves

Four adults are accused of beating a man for two days and then leaving him for dead in the woods near Crandon, Wis. for wolves to eat.

Authorities say Justin Bey, 21; Raymond Jones, 45; April Jones, 38; and Samantha McClellan, 18, beat the 40-year-old victim because they believed he touched a child inappropriately.

Forest County District Attorney Charles Simono says there are no plans to charge the victim.

Prosecutors say one of the suspects met the victim a couple weeks ago on a dating website.

Court documents obtained by CBS affiliate WSAW say the victim had been staying with some of the suspects and was beaten periodically for two days straight.

A group of ATV riders found the man in the woods last week. He has multiple fractures and severe frostbite.

Two juveniles were also charged in the case. Simono wouldn't give any details of those charges. ..Source.. by Crimesider Staff

He Was Tortured for Two Days and Left in Woods for Wolves to Eat

But What Led to Twisted Crime May Be Even More Disturbing

Two ATV riders were making their way through the woods about two hours northwest of Green Bay, Wis. a couple of weeks ago when they saw what they thought was a suitcase in the trail near Bug Lake.

But it was a man, beaten and covered in blood.

The riders thought he was dead, but then the 40-year-old started speaking.

So the riders loaded him on the back of the ATV, took him to a nearby business, and called 911.

Hospital personnel made more unsettling discoveries: The man had multiple fractures to his head and face, including a broken jaw, and two broken ribs.

And after spending the night laying alone in the woods, the man had frostbite all over his body, and it was feared he would need a leg and foot amputated, according to WSAW-TV in Wausau, Wis., citing county court records.

“Given the severity of how badly beaten he was, the amount of blood loss, and the degree of hypothermia, including the solidification of his one limbs, and the extensive frostbite throughout, I don’t think he had much longer,” Forest County District Attorney Charles Simono told WLUK-TV in Green Bay.

Police believe the culprits are Raymond Jones, 45, April Jones, 38, Justin Bey, 21, and Samantha McClellan, 18, all who’ve been charged with multiple crimes, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and made initial appearances Wednesday in court.

All four also are charged with false imprisonment, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child, kidnapping, and aggravated battery; Raymond Jones is also charged with strangulation.

Two juveniles were also arrested as result of the incident, WSAW initially reported, but no additional information was disclosed regarding them.

Here’s where things get even more bizarre.

Court documents show the alleged victim met one of the accused on a dating website. Then Raymond and April Jones brought the man to their house — where Bey also lives — in Wabeno, about 25 minutes southeast of where he was found in the woods by the ATV riders.

The man had been at the house for three weeks when a minor child of Raymond and April Jones said the man “touched her behind on the way back from the store. You’ll see in the complaint that it was with an open hand — nothing of a grab — and that she took off running,” Simono said.

That’s when the four adults allegedly went to work on him.

According to the criminal complaint, during a two-day period the man was beaten with sticks and punched and kicked in the head and groin, urinated upon, and had feces wiped on his head.

While in custody, Samantha McClellan told investigators they had tied up the man, and she and her boyfriend, Bey — who is identified in some reports as a son of the Joneses — were kicking him.

When McClellan heard that the target of their beating was found alive, she reportedly became upset.

Indeed prosecutors said the defendants admitted wanting to kill the man — who tried at one point to escape — but decided to leave him in the woods, assuming wolves would finish the deed due the amount of blood he lost.

Raymond Jones commented that the man’s condition was “the worst he had ever seen anyone beat,” the criminal complaint said.

Simono concurred: “I haven’t seen a crime to this degree of heinousness throughout all my years as a defense lawyer or as a prosecutor,” he told WLUK. “He was beat for two days.” ..Source.. by Dave Urbanski

Four Wisconsin family members brutally beat man, leave him in woods to be eaten by wolves: police

3-19-2014:

The parents, their adult son and his fiancée kept the man in their Wabeno home and beat him unrelentingly for two days before ditching him in the cold woods last week. The man was near death and had only one shoe when he was found by two ATV riders.

Four people have been charged with beating a man for several days before leaving him for dead in the cold northern Wisconsin woods to be eaten by wolves, prosecutors say.

The 40-year-old man was found northeast of Crandon on March 12 after two ATV riders came across him.

They at first thought the slumped, unmoving figure was a suitcase in the trail.

When they saw the blood-covered man, they thought he was dead before he started to speak, prosecutors wrote in a complaint according to WSAW-TV.

The man had been staying at the Wabeno home of Raymond Jones, 45, his wife April, 38, their son Justin Bey, 21, and his fiancée, Samantha McClellan, 18, for three weeks. But earlier this month, the foursome started beating the man after he allegedly inappropriately touched the Joneses’ young daughter.

For two days, the family unrelentingly assaulted the man with sticks, punched and kicked him in the crotch and smeared feces and urine on his face, the news station reported.

McClellan reportedly complained the beatdowns weren’t working because the man was still alive.

And Raymond Jones reportedly said the badly hurt man was “the worst he had ever seen anyone beat.”

The victim reportedly tried to flee but was captured. The gruesome foursome then took the man to the woods, where they left him overnight.

The alleged attackers admitted they wanted the man dead and assumed his bloodied condition would attract hungry wolves.

“I haven’t seen a crime to this degree of heinousness throughout all my years as a defense lawyer or as a prosecutor. He was beat for two days,” Forest County District Attorney Charles Simono told WLUK-TV.

But the next morning, the riders found the nearly dead man, wearing only one shoe with his pants down around his ankles.

The victim had fractures to his face, a broken nose and jaw and two broken ribs, the complaint details.

The man is expected to have one leg and his other foot amputated, WLUK reported.

Two juveniles face undisclosed charges.

The four alleged culprits face a laundry list of charges including attempted murder, battery, intimidation of a victim and false imprisonment.

“Given the severity of how badly beaten he was, the amount of blood loss, and the degree of hypothermia, including the solidification of his one limb, and the extensive frostbite throughout, I don’t think he had much longer,” Simono told the news station. ..Source.. by Sasha Goldstein

New details in brutal beating that led to 6 arrests: UPDATED

Court records reveal more details about a brutal beating that led to the arrests of six people this week.

Authorities say ATV riders found the victim in the woods near Crandon on Wednesday.

Investigators say the man was beaten over two days in a Wabeno home, then was taken to the woods and left for dead.

They say his injuries are so severe, a leg may have to be amputated.

WSAW-TV in Wausau reports the man was beaten because he was believed to have touched a child inappropriately.

He was taken to a hospital in Rhinelander, then flown to Marshfield Hospital.

The Forest County Sheriff's Office says a search warrant at the Wabeno home led to evidence and the arrests of four adults and two juveniles. The adults range from 18 to 45 years old.

The sheriff's office is recommending charges against 45-year-old Raymond Jones including attempted first-degree homicide, strangulation/suffocation, reckless injury, recklessly endangering safety, intimidation of a victim, false imprisonment, causing mental harm to a child and contributing to the delinquency of a child.

The other adults could face charges including party to the crime of first-degree attempted homicide and the other felonies, and failing to provide aid to a victim. They're identified as April Jones, 38; Justin Bey, 21; and Samantha McClellan, 18. ..Source.. by WBAY.com

Family of 4 Brutally Beats & Tortures Man They Say Inappropriately Touched Child

3-25-2014:

Four people have been charged after they beat a man within inches of his life recently and left him in the woods to die. Raymond Jones, 45, April Jones, 38, Justin Bey, 21, and Samantha McClellan, 18, have all been charged with attempted first degree intentional homicide, false imprisonment, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a child, kidnapping, and aggravated battery.

The victim had reportedly been staying with the Joneses for three weeks before the incident. He told authorities that he had hit a young child on the butt, and that's why he was beat up.

According to the criminal report, the man was beaten on and off for two days straight, and during those days, he allegedly was urinated on and had feces wiped on his head. He was found by two people who were riding ATVs in the woods, who initially thought he was dead. They put the man on the back of their vehicle and called 911 to get him help.

Putting a hand on a child is NEVER right in any circumstances, but this is incredibly disturbing. Police say this is the worst they've ever seen a man beaten. And the suspects were reportedly upset when they learned the man was still alive. See, they thought wolves would get to him and kill him after they smelled all that blood.

Details are still rather scant on this horrific crime, but talk about something truly upsetting. Hopefully, if convicted, these people will be doled out a suitable punishment, as it doesn't seem like they feel much remorse.

And, hopefully, if the victim did do anything inappropriate to a child, which is what the family is claiming, he'll be locked up, too. Ugh, this whole thing is about as awful and upsetting as it gets. ..Source.. by Nicole Fabian-Weber
