Man attacked after asking about unattended child

6-13-2014 Massachusetts:

A 72-year-old man who was concerned for the safety of a small child left alone in a stroller outside a downtown Dunkin’ Donuts Wednesday afternoon was violently assaulted after going inside to ask whose child it was, police said.

Steven Jonathan Thackery, 22, of 7 Orange St., Salem, then literally added insult to injury when he told to police that he thought the older man was a “pedophile,” an assertion he repeated in Salem District Court during his arraignment Thursday. The older man is not.

Now, Thackery — who was recently released from jail for other assaultive behavior, a prosecutor said — is being held on $10,000 bail, charged with assault and battery on an elderly person and violating the city’s knife ordinance.

Police were called to the Washington Street Dunkin’ Donuts around 3:30 p.m. for a report of a fight.

The older man, who had swelling on the left side of his face and a cut under his eye, told police that when he went inside to ask where the child’s guardian was, the man later identified as Thackery and Thackery’s girlfriend, Jamie Primus, yelled at him to mind his own business, according to a police report.

Man Sentenced for Felony Battery on -a 69 year old- Registered Sex Offender

3-12-2014 Idaho:

TWIN FALLS - A man convicted of felony aggravated battery for beating a 69-year-old man was sentenced Monday in Twin Falls County District Court.

Bradley Houser, 35, was sentenced to the state's retained jurisdiction program. He will attend the Correctional Alternative Placement Program through the Idaho Department of Correction.

After the program, a judge can either put Houser on probation or send him to prison for an underlying sentence of three to 15 years.

Houser was also ordered to reimburse the county public defender's office for $500 and was ordered to pay victim's restitution of $1,257.44.

Police said Houser beat the man because he is a registered sex offender.

Father Beats Registered Sex Offender

8-29-16 Texas:

A registered sex offender in Rising Star is in the hospital in intensive care after he was severely beaten by an angry father.

According to Rising Star Police, Dustin Abrams beat Larry Smith Friday night on the 100 block of South Bruce.

Police say Abrams was angry at Smith after he found out about allegations that Smith sexually assaulted Abram's child.

Rising Star Police say there were two witnesses to the alleged sexual assault by Smith.

Abrams is charged with Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

He has bonded out of jail on a $15,000 bond.

Neighbors allegedly assault man in Flint for being on sex offender registry

8-20-2014 Michigan:

FLINT, MI -- A man was assaulted by three men from his neighborhood after they found out he was on the sex offender registry, according to a Flint police report.

Flint police were called to an area hospital in reference to an assault that happened on Crawford Street on Monday, Aug. 18, around 4:20 p.m.

The victim told police he was allegedly assaulted by three men from the south side neighborhood because he is on the sex offender registry list.

According to the report, the victim had what appeared to be a cut on his right wrist, red left eye, and a cut on his bottom lip. Police said the victim also complained of rib pain.

‘Obsessed’ suspect in Mill Valley arson and vandalism spree tackled by off-duty firefighter

4-5-15 California:

A woman “obsessed” with a Mill Valley home set the house on fire, vandalized the driveway next door, drenched a woman with lighter fluid, got tackled by an off-duty firefighter and ended up in jail on Sunday, a sheriff’s official said.

Nai Feuy Saelor, a 24-year-old Richmond resident, was arrested at a home on Panoramic Highway and booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, arson and vandalism.

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m., when the owner of the home noticed the lights flickering inside, said sheriff’s Lt. Doug Pittman said. When the homeowner looked outside to see if a power line was down, he saw smoke, went outside and discovered his carport engulfed in flames.

“He alerted his family, a family member called 911, and his son ran outside and extinguished the fire with the garden hose,” Pittman said.

The person suspected of starting the fire had also spray-painted vulgarities and accusations in red paint on the mailboxes and driveway next door. As the suspect began to leave the scene, she was seen by a woman standing outside, Pittman said.

Homeless Palmetto man charged with punching child molester

9-23-15 Florida:

MANATEE -- Deputies arrested a homeless man after he hit another man who was kicked out of an Ellenton bar for being a child molester, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Staff of the Three Oaks Bar in Ellenton told the victim to leave the property because he was a convicted child molester, according to an arrest report. The victim left the bar at 4:50 p.m. Saturday and was followed by William Wagner.

Wagner, 53, confronted the victim outside the bar and called him a child molester several times, deputies said. The victim responded that he had committed the crime 30 years ago and "he has never done it since."

Wagner then punched the victim in the face and the man fell on his right knee, according to the report. A witness came over to help, and Wagner asked why he would help a child molester before walking off.

Nicole Pelletier, Outraged Mom, Allegedly Assaults Neighbor Who Faces Child Porn Charges

9-27-2014 Massachusetts:

A Massachusetts mom faces felony charges after she admitted to assaulting her neighbor, who had returned home after being arrested on child porn charges.

According to a police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, Nicole Pelletier, 42, entered Gary Spring's condo through an unlocked door the evening of Sept. 22.

Spring, 61, a former Merrimack College professor who was recently fired after being charged with possession of child pornography, told police that he was in bed when Pelletier entered his bedroom and punched him square in the face.

The accused man lives in the apartment directly below Pelletier and her two children, 11 and 13. The woman, who was described in the report as "crying and visibly upset" with blood on her arm and hands, called 911 herself after attacking her neighbor.

South Carolina man left beaten to pulp after allegedly raping nephew's girlfriend on New Year's Eve: police

12-31-2014 South Carolina:

William Mattson's nephew told Conway police he found the 52-year-old raping his girlfriend inside their shared home just after midnight Thursday. After kicking down the bedroom door the boyfriend apparently went Rambo on him, leaving his uncle bruised and bloody.

William Mattson's New Year’s Eve left him seeing stars.

The 52-year-old sexual assault suspect was found beaten to a bloody pulp when picked up by police in Conway, S.C. just after midnight Thursday, police said.

The victim's boyfriend told police he found Mattson having his way with her inside a bedroom of his father's house, where he lives with his girlfriend and Mattson, Myrtle Beach Online reported.

Upon hearing odd sounds coming from inside the room, he told police he kicked the bedroom door down and apparently went Rambo on his uncle while physically driving him out of the home with pounding fists.

Attacks on sex offenders may be connected

11-11-2008 California:

Police say two registered sex offenders living in Mountain View have been targeted for attack in recent weeks, apparently by someone who wants to punish them for their crimes.

In the first incident, a sex offender's home was nearly set on fire by a Molotov cocktail on Oct. 19 before a passerby intervened. In the latest incident, on Nov. 6, a suspect broke into a sex offender's home and hit him several times on the head, causing moderate lacerations that required hospital treatment. In both instances, the attacker made it clear that he was targeting a sex offender, said police spokesperson Liz Wylie.

"He is attacking people because they are sex offenders, which is awful," Wylie said.

Sex offenders are easily tracked because their whereabouts are posted online by law enforcement agencies.

Police are not sure if the two incidents involve the same suspect, but the descriptions from each incident are similar. Police will be releasing a description soon.

Like most of the 80 registered sex offenders in the city, both of the sex offenders in these attacks had been convicted of crimes against children, Wylie said. Each crime happened more than 15 years ago and each of the sex offenders had been law abiding as of late, Wylie said.

Police have not ruled out that the suspect knew the victim in each crime, but the man who was physically beaten said he had "never seen the suspect before in his life and didn't know why he would attack him," Wylie said.

In both instances the suspect is described by police as about six feet tall, in his early 20s and wearing "all dark clothing, including a dark baseball cap." In the first incident he was described by the passerby as Hispanic and weighing about 175 pounds. But in the second the suspect is described as white.

Reward offered for information about man beaten in Newark

8-7-2012 New Jersey:

3 suspects called victim a child molester during attack

NEWARK -- A reward was offered for information about a Newark man hospitalized for months after he was beaten May 14 on a path between Sherwood Downs South and Ditmore Stroll.

The 59-year-old man was walking from a North 21st Street store to his Churchill Downs Road home when he was approached by three men who stole money from his wallet and threw him to the ground, Newark police Sgt. Scott Snow said.

During the attack, the three men taunted him, calling him a child molester, Snow said. The 59-year-old man told police he did not know how the men found out he is a convicted sex offender, but a notice was sent to his neighbors when he moved to the area, Snow said.

He was convicted of felonious sexual penetration from a 1991 case, according to court records.

The suspects laughed at him and threatened to harm him further if he called police, Snow said.

He initially called his mother, who had not heard from her son since May 13 -- Mother's Day -- and had not seen him since May 11, Snow said. On May 16, a squad was sent to his home.

The man had bruises on his pelvis, head, neck, throat and other body parts. He was using an oxygen mask and had trouble speaking, Snow said.

He was flown to Columbus by emergency medical helicopter and later transferred to the Regency Hospital, which handles "catastrophic injuries or illnesses" that require longer stays, according to its website.

Licking County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $1,000 for information about the crime. The three suspects were described as white men in their early 20s and taller than 5-foot-9. They wore hooded sweatshirts and two had sideburns and goatees, Snow said.

Father who police say beat peeping Tom to face charges

9-6-2013 New Mexico:

Suspect still in hospital, will also be charged

The father who police said beat a man who was allegedly peering into his daughter's bedroom window will be charged.

They said the accused peeping Tom suspect was so badly beaten, he's in the hospital.

On Friday, outraged neighbors came to that father's defense.

"We've got a father, a young father, who could lose everything because of this one person," said Michael Salter.

That one person has been identified by police as 29-year old Dylan Maho, who police said was found naked around 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning outside a young girl's window, looking in, and making noises.

"It was moaning and groaning, that's what she thought she heard at first," said the girl's aunt Thursday. "She thought it was a cat."

"You can see that I'm starting to shake, and I'm not wanting to speak about it much more," Salter said.

The girl's father, Emilio Chavez III, his son, and his son's friend all ran after Maho.

Springfield man, detained; by neighbors, arrested on child-enticement charges as he is released from hospital

SPRINGFIELD - Was it street justice that led to 61-year-old Randolph Barden's beating by neighbors earlier this month?

Or, was it some kind of vendetta on the part of the girls who accused him of attempting to lure them into his car with candy?

Barden's lawyer and a Hampden County assistant district attorney laid out their opposing views of Barden's beating in the McKnight neighborhood during his arraignment on child enticement charges Wednesday morning in Springfield District Court.

The beating that sent Barden to Baystate Medical Center for the better part of a week, occurred Friday night, according Sgt. John M. Delaney.

Officers Anthony Sowers and Craig Davis, dispatched to the area of Bay and Marion streets shortly after 9:30 p.m., discovered Barden laying on the ground suffering from injuries "and the whole neighborhood gathered around," Delaney said.

Beaten man leaves hospital

6-5-2009 Pennsylvania:

The man who was pummeled by Kensington vigilantes for his alleged connection to the rape of an 11-year-old girl was released from the hospital yesterday as new allegations arose that he groped another woman the day he allegedly attacked the girl.

Jose Carrasquillo, 26, was released from Temple University Hospital about noon and taken into police custody at the Special Victims Unit where he was questioned about Monday's assault on the girl and other possible assaults.

Video footage released by police yesterday shows Carrasquillo on Monday walking on Kensington Avenue near Orleans Street alongside the girl and her sister, who was dropped off at a day-care center before the attack.

Police said the 11-year-old was on her way to Russell Conwell Middle School when Carrasquillo threatened to shoot her and then raped her in a nearby back yard.

Just an hour earlier, police say, Carrasquillo entered the cafeteria of Kensington High School for the Creative and Performing Arts - at Cumberland and Coral streets, about a mile from where the 11-year-old was approached - and groped a teenage girl, who later identified him as her attacker.

Police: Men Broke into Hotel, Beat up Sex Offender

8-28-2013 Idaho:

TWIN FALLS • Police say two men broke into a hotel room and beat a man who is a registered sex offender.

Bradley Houser, 35, was charged with felony aggravated battery. A second man has not been arrested.

A police report by Twin Falls Police Officer Samir Smriko gives this account:

Just before 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 23, police say, police went to the Super 7 Motel at 320 Main Ave. following a battery call.

As police entered the hotel room they saw Rick Perkins, 69, washing blood off his head and arms. Perkins had a two-inch gash on his forehead and multiple cuts in other places.

Perkins told police that at about 10 p.m., two men came to his door and threatened him. Perkins recognized one from a previous encounter. The men said they were going to beat him up because of a past child sex abuse case.

In 2008, Perkins was convicted on six counts of lewd conduct with a minor younger than 16. He was sentenced to a three years in prison and made parole in November 2011. Prosecutors said Tuesday that it was unclear if the beating was connected to that case.

Perkins told police the two men, who smelled of alcohol, initially left his room because other people were around, but soon returned, closed the door behind them and started beating him.

The beating lasted for about 10 minutes. As he spoke to officers, Perkins grabbed his side in pain several times.

Paramedics arrived and Perkins declined to be taken to a hospital, but was informed he would need stitches on his head.

Police later found Houser in the 200 block of Alexander Street but couldn’t locate the other man.

Houser was extremely intoxicated and had to use a fence to hold himself up, police said. He told them he and another man who he didn’t know went to the hotel and Perkins swung at them.

Houser is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 6. Prosecutors will attempt to show that they have enough evidence to take Houser to trial. ..Source.. by Alison Gene Smith

Idaho man charged with beating sex offender

8-28-2013 Idaho:

TWIN FALLS -- One man has been charged with a felony and southern Idaho police are seeking a second man in connection with the beating of a registered sex offender.

The Times-News reports 35-year-old Bradley Houser has been charged with felony aggravated battery. He has not yet entered a plea.

Twin Falls Police Officer Samir Smriko wrote in a police report that officers were called to a Twin Falls motel last week to investigate a battery. They found 69-year-old Rick Perkins, who had a two-inch gash on his forehead and other injuries.

According to the report, Perkins said two men came to his door and began beating him because of a past child sex abuse case. Perkins was convicted of six counts of lewd conduct with a child in 2008. ..Source.. by KTVB.COM

Harlingen couple jailed for beating convicted sex offender

8-22-2013 Texas:

A Harlingen couple is facing criminal charges after being accused of brutally beating a convicted sex offender.

Harlingen police arrested 31-year-old Monica Nieves and her 19-year-old boyfriend Juan Quezada.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it all happened on the 200 block of East Madison Avenue.

Police said Nieves slapped and attacked the man while Quezada jumped in to punched him.

Both of them told police that they did it because the man was a sex offender.

Officers charged Nieves and Quezada with assault. Their bond was set at $1,000 dollars.

Authorities are asking people concerned about sex offenders or other criminals to contact the police instead of taking matters into their own hands. ..Source.. by Action 4 News Staff

Residents chase, beat sex assault suspect

8-18-2009 Pennsylvania:

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Philadelphia residents allegedly beat a sexual assault suspect they caught and held until police arrived, a Philadelphia police spokesman said.

The man, whose name was not reported, was chased Saturday night by residents who said they believed he had sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman that morning.

Residents had heard the man held the woman at gunpoint and assaulted her near 56th Street and Lansdowne Avenue, police told The Philadelphia Inquirer.

This is the second recent vigilante action in the city, the newspaper said.

Police said residents of the Kensington neighborhood beat Jose Carrasquillo, 26, a suspect in the June rape of an 11-year-old girl who was on her way to school. ..Source.. by UPI

Sex offender beaten while picking persimmon

11-4-2009 Florida:

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- A sex offender's craving for persimmon was cut short by a punch to the ear from a neighbor who lived near the wild tree the convicted molester was perusing, deputies said.

The neighbor, Chad T. Bunfill, 38, was arrested Sunday on a charge of battery on a person 65 or older, a sheriff's report said. Bunfill got out of jail after posting $1,500 bail, court records show.

No one answered the phone at Bunfill's home this afternoon.

The man on the receiving end of Bunfill's clenched fist, ___, 68, recently had open heart surgery and walked in the mornings while it was cool, a sheriff's report said. ___ pleaded no contest to lewd and lascivious assault on a child younger than 16 in 1999, and after less than three years in prison is still on seven years probation, court records show.

The wild persimmon tree was on the edge of a vacant lot across from ___'s home and not on Bunfill's property, deputies said.

According to the report, ___ was out on his walk at 7:43 a.m. Sunday when he stopped in front of the vacant lot near Bunfill's property, across from his Mills Drive residence. ___ was checking for ripe persimmons to pick eat. That's when he heard Bunfill behind him shouting and cursing at him, calling him a baby rapist and sex offender, the report said.

___ said a yelling Bunfill approached and punched ___ on the left side of the face and ear. ___ tried to get away from Bunfill, but the neighbor followed ___ and threatened to kill him, the report said.

Bunfill told deputies that this girlfriend was taking his 8-year-old twin girls to school at the same time that ___ stopped to check out the orange-colored fruits, the report said.

Bunfill's girlfriend, Darlyn Warner, told deputies ___ had his back to them and did not see or speak to them when she left with the children. Warner said she called Bunfill to alert him that ___ was near their home, the report said.

Sex offender wanted a persimmon. He got punched

Ross Lane Johnson, 68, who lives just outside New Smyrna Beach is a convicted sex offender. He's also an early morning walker.

He was out walking recently and happened upon a persimmon tree on a vacant lot. He thought he'd pick some fruit when a neighbor started shouting at him. And, no, it wasn't about swiping fruit.

Chad T.Bunfill was cursing and calling him a baby rapist and sex offender, reports the Daytona Beach News Journal.

That's when Johnson said Bunfill punched him on the left side of the face and ear. Bunfill, 38, was arrested on a charge of battery on a person 65 or older. ..Source.. by Barbara Hijek

Sex offender assaulted, bullet shatters car

2-12-2010 Connecticut:

A 37-year-old registered sex offender was assaulted and robbed Thursday morning, six hours after a bullet shattered his back windshield while he was driving south on South Main Street, police said.

Officers have not yet determined if the two incidents are related or just coincidental because parked cars were also hit by gunfire in the area of South Main Street where the victim's back window was shot out, according to Sgt. Lisa Cotto, a spokeswoman for the Norwalk Police Department.

The victim contacted police shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday to report that the back window of his car had been shattered while he was driving near the intersection of South Main and Grove streets, police said.

He said he heard a bang, then noticed the broken car glass, but he did not see the perpetrator in the incident, according to police.

Officers conducted further investigation in the area where the victim's car was reportedly struck and found two bullet holes in a red Dodge Neon that was parked at 147 South Main St., police said. Evidence was recovered from the scene, and officers made contact with the Neon's owner, but she was sleeping when the incident occurred, police said.

Police said they also found a Ford Taurus that was parked in the area where the gunfire occurred had a bullet hole in it. Officers are still attempting to contact the owner of the Taurus.

The man whose back window was damaged by gunfire called police Thursday morning at 6:30 a.m. to report that he had been robbed by a group of approximately eight males, police said.

He told police he had parked his car near Colonial Village, a housing complex that is close to his home, and the males started punching and harassing him. He said the men called him a rapist, a sex offender and various expletives while they were assaulting him, according to police.

The victim said he believed one of the males had a gun, police said. The suspects took his wallet, which contained a small amount of money and personal items, police said.

He told police that he has noticed people following him to work for the past week or so. The victim, who was convicted of sexual assault in 2001, also said he heard a woman's voice in the background while he was being assaulted. He believes the female that he heard in the background may be the victim of the sexual assault, police said.

Accusations Of Being A Pedophile Spark Attack

OILDALE, Calif. -- A woman is in custody after, police said, she allegedly attacked a man and accused him of being a pedophile.

Nicole Antonucci resisted arrest and had to be stunned with a Taser and pepper sprayed by deputies, according to sheriff's officials.

Police said Buddy Graham was beaten and bruised during the assault that left his shirt torn and nerves rattled. Graham said he was falsely accused.

The incident happened Monday afternoon in the 200 block of North Chester Avenue. The victim said this was not the first time he has been assaulted on the streets.

Witnesses said Antonucci called Graham a pedophile and other witnesses said that Antonucci is a "nut case" who is on drugs.

Graham had contacted 23 ABC recently because he said he was attacked at Riverview Park weeks ago for the same type of accusation by a different woman.

"I was walking down the street and she came up to me and asked me for a lighter. Then she turned around and said, 'You S.O.B,' and started hitting me," said Graham.
